The Well-Read Constitution - Episode 1
In this 250th anniversary year of the Declaration of Independence, we remember why the founders risked all in support of this cause.
The Declaration states:
“The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.”
The founders concluded:
“A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”
The framers designed the Constitution to constrain such an unfit ruler and safeguard the people against this sort of tyranny. A free people must stand up for it.
This is why we read.
